Mobile Marketing

The Future is Mobile Marketing

Mobile Marketing

Mobile marketing has become the next platform of choice for internet marketing. It allows consumers to take their lives with them on the go. No longer do they have to send emails to their PCs or Macs and go back them up when they return to the workstation or home. The opportunity is now there for consumers and anyone else with a need to access virtually any type of content they seek, and be able to make decisions and implement them on the spot.

The advent and eventual inundation of the market by Smartphones is the catalyst behind the exploding growth of this segment of the market. The ability for nearly anyone to tap into rich media platforms and make immediate use of them wherever they happen to be is a quantum shift in how business is conducted.

The capability of consumers and marketers being able to communicate and engage through the use of mobile devices, even those as simple as text messaging, is opening up whole new avenues of opportunities to marketers willing to “look beyond what you can see”.

Mobile Phone Statistics

So just how many people have a mobile phone (of some sort) as of Fall 2010? The numbers may astound you.

  • According to Comscore (and others) more than 234 million Americans over the age of 13 have a mobile device, making that a full 91% of the US population that has a cell phone. That totals 285 million wireless users in the USA as of December 2009.
  • There are more mobile phones in the USA than there are PCs.
  • There are some 50 million smart phones or wireless-enabled PDAs and 12 million wireless-enabled laptops, notebooks or wireless broadband modems chewing up data plans out there today and growing fast!
  • Most of the mobile phones on wireless carriers’ networks are fully enabled for browsing the Web.
  • 23% of all USA households have no landline, and have become wireless only.

Google, Smart Phones and Mobile Marketing

Google is very aware of the vast reach of mobile marketing. Google’s mobile search platform has increased more than 500 percent in each of the last two years and has shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon. In fact, Google is heavily invested with properties like Android, and its acquisition of AdMob last May, one of the world’s leading mobile advertising networks.

Google Adwords, Adsense and Analytics are all geared to take advantage of the fact that by 2013, there will be more people accessing the internet through a mobile device than through a PC or Mac.

Google Mobile Searches

The Google Mobile search however, is another bag of buttons altogether! Google itself said in March 2010 that more than one-third of the searches performed on the mobile search network are local in nature. Following the money would seem to be a confirmation, as local based mobile spending will top more than $4 billion in 2015. That’s a far cry from the puny $34 million spent just last year. Google does seem to follow the money!

Local Searches

The reason this is important for you is that local search can be easier to crack into, particularly on mobile search engines. There is not nearly the competition (yet) as there is in the traditional search arena. Thus, you can bring about far quicker results for your local internet marketing campaigns. You will also be able to target more competitive markets and keywords, and enter markets you might not otherwise have been able to saturate.
